Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Dolly Parton began her Imagination Library program in 1996 to provide books to all of the young children in her hometown in East Tennessee. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading
among her county's preschool children and their families. The Imagination Library was so successful, that it is now an international program. The Wilkes Community Partnership for Children is the local champion of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, available at no cost to ALL children in Wilkes County under the age of five. Each child enrolled in the program will receive one age-appropriate book per month until his/her fifth birthday.

Play 2 Learn

Play 2 Learn Groups feature hands-on activities using a variety of developmentally appropriate materials, books, and learning activities to focus on emergent literacy skills and appropriate parent child interactions. We have classes at North Wilkesboro Presbyterian church and other community sites.  Play 2 Learn Groups are available to families of infants/toddlers and preschoolers who are not currently enrolled in licensed child care. Caregivers learn what to expect from their children as they grow and develop as well as the ways children learn through play. There are opportunities to meet other parents and learn about available community resources. Using the resources from the Kaleidoscope Play & Learn curriculum, caregivers are introduced to strategies to develop children oral language, phonological awareness, and emergent writing skills and how to incorporate activities into everyday situations with their children.

Jump Start Child Care Scholarship Program

The JumpStart Child Care Scholarship Program allows parent to have child care paid for two weeks which allows the parent to put money aside for their future child care payments.  Our JumpStart Child Care Scholarship Program also assists parents as they wait for full-time child care subsidy through the Department of Social Services.

The scholarship from Wilkes Community Partnership for Children is paid after the parent completes an application demonstrating need.  The scholarship is paid directly to the child care facility.  The Partnership for Children solely relies on donations to provide this needed service for our families
