Who are Child Care Health Consultants (CCHCs)?
CCHCs are trained health professionals with education and experience in both child and community health and early care and education. CCHCs work with child care programs to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to achieve high quality, safe, healthy child care environments.
Qualified CCHCs have completed the NC Child Care Health Consultant Training Course provided by the North Carolina Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center, a program of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health.
CCHCs make a difference by:
Assessing health and safety environments in licensed child care centers and homes
Promoting the inclusion of children with special health care needs (i.e., seizures, diabetes, developmental delays)
Supporting early educators in preventing and managing injuries and infectious diseases
Connecting early educators and families to community health resources
Increasing compliance with health and safety rules/regulations and best practice standards
Providing health and safety technical assistance and training (i.e., assist with handwashing & diapering procedures)
Increasing child care staff knowledge of health issues
Improving the quality of health and safety policies and practices
Strengthening environmental health practices
