Calm Through the Crying: A Guide to the PURPLE Period of Baby Crying

WCPC is offering a FREE class for parents/caregivers of babies and expectant parents/caregivers. This free class helps parents/caregivers understand about babies and what crying is healthy and normal. The class will also provide helpful tips for soothing babies. Class will take place at the WCPC office - 1915 West Park Drive, Suite 107 North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

  • Parents/Guardians/Caregivers of a child 6 months and younger

  • Expectant mothers/parents/caregivers (prefer baby will be born within 10 weeks of attending class)

  • Free to attend!

  • Childcare not available

  • Minimum of 4 & Maximum of 15 participants per class

  • Must pre-register online to attend!

  • Free giveaway for caregivers who attend

What is the period of purple crying?

Learn different ways to soothe your child during Periods of Crying.
It is a program of the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome.
The program is an evidence-based shaken baby syndrome/abusive head trauma (SBS/AHT) prevention program developed by the National Center on Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Two aims for the program:

  • To support caregivers in their understanding of early increased crying

  • To reduce the incidence of SBS/AHT

Several session of the SAME CLASS will be offered through 2026. Session dates and times are Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., Monday, March 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., Monday, May 4, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., and Thursday, June 18, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Online registration is required to take the class. Parents/caregivers only need to attend ONE CLASS.
