Dollars for Dolly
Wilkes Community Partnership for Children (WCPC) is proud to be a partner with Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL). DPIL is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners.
Just last year, over 25,000 books were mailed to Wilkes County children age birth to five years through DPIL’s partnership with WCPC, the local Smart Start agency. “Early literacy is so critical for lifelong development,” said Amy Cubbage, NCPC President. “Smart Start Local Partnerships know the importance of increasing access to books in the homes of our families with young children.”
WCPC learned that state funding has reached its capacity, and as a result, there are no funds to support new child enrollments in Wilkes County for DPIL. This means that babies being born in Wilkes County or families moving to the county with young children cannot enroll in DPIL unless WCPC provides private funding to support the program.
WCPC is asking you to partner with us as we raise funds to keep DPIL enrollment open for new babies and children of families moving into Wilkes County.
Dollars for Dolly is WCPC’s summer 2025 fundraiser to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Wilkes County.
How does it work? Local businesses make a donation to WCPC and agree to place a life-sized cutout of Dolly Parton in their business for four days during the summer of 2025 (Monday - Thursday of a designated week or other days upon request). Local businesses are encouraged to place Dolly in a prominent spot and even decorate her with something unique to the business - a light item that will not damage the Dolly cutout (hat, scarf, etc.). WCPC also asks each participating business to have a DPIL donation jar at their location during their Dollars for Dolly week.
WCPC will highlight the donor’s generous contribution by:
1. Featuring social media posts on WCPC’s Facebook and Instagram Accounts about the local business each day of the Dolly “rental”. Currently, WCPC has more than 4,500 followers on social media platforms.
2. Starting the first day of the Dolly “rental” week with an interactive “find Dolly” post that drives guests to your business to take a picture with Dolly. If you do not wish to generate foot traffic to your location, WCPC can omit this feature.
3. Featuring the business name/logo as a Dolly Parton Imagination Library sponsor in the summer 2025 WCPC printed newsletter.
4. Featuring the business name/logo as a Dolly Parton Imagination Library sponsor in the summer monthly WCPC online newsletter.
5. Featuring the business name/logo as a Dolly Parton Imagination Library sponsor on the WCPC website.
WCPC is a nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible.
The cost to participate in Dollars for Dolly is $200 per week. This donation will provide three children age birth to five years in Wilkes County one book every month for one year. The donation can be made online through PayPal, mailed to WCPC at PO Box 788 North Wilkesboro, NC 28659, or delivered in-person to the WCPC office at 1915 West Park Drive Suite 107 North Wilkesboro, NC.
