Ready, Set, Learn

Wilkes Community Partnership for Children is hosting satellite KINDERGARTEN READINESS classes for children entering kindergarten the following fall. Research shows that when students begin school proficient in “readiness skills” they are much more successful for their entire school career. Our goal is for ALL children in Wilkes County to be ready for kindergarten!

Caregivers and enrolled children will learn and practice skills side-by-side as well as receive home learning opportunities. The skills and strategies families will learn are the same as those taught in pre-k classrooms. The five domains of development addressed are:

  • Approaches to Play and Learning

  • Cognitive Development

  • Health and Physical Development

  • Language and Communication Development and

  • Emotional and Social Development

Kindergarten readiness not only includes cognitive skills, literacy and math, but also social-emotional, physical and language skills.

A caregiver must remain with their child at all times during the Ready, Set, Learn program, whether it be a parent, grandparent, sitter, etc. This program is completely free to families that participate.

Ready, Set, Learn operates from September through May, similar to a school year. The program runs from 8:30am-11:30am one day each week (4 meetings per month). Site locations are as listed:

  • Wilkesboro - Cherry Grove Baptist Church

  • North Wilkesboro - First United Methodist Church of North Wilkesboro

  • State Road (between Ronda and Traphill) - Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church

  • Millers Creek - TBD

  • Mountain View - TBD

Select sites will have childcare available for younger siblings.
